Weather Service Briefing Eases Fears of Flooding in Umatilla County

Despite a forecast of rain and snow this weekend, there is no expectation of flooding in Umatilla County, according to the National Weather Service out of Pendleton.

The weather service briefed the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s Emergency Management Division and said there will be no flooding over the next week.

According to the National Weather Service, there will be a rises on streams and rivers starting Tuesday March 1 with rivers expected to crest March 3-5. A chance of rain and snow returns on Saturday night and Sunday, then several warmer and wet systems are expected through next week.

In the lower elevations, soil temperatures are in the mid and upper 30s, so rainfall and runoff is expected to soak into the ground. Updated river conditions and forecasts can be found online.
