Joyce Dye Passes Away at 93

Evelyn “Joyce” Dye of Boardman (formerly of Hermiston) passed away in Boardman on Aug. 3, 2022 at the age of 93.

She was born on Jan. 12, 1929 in Willits, Calif. She was the youngest of three children born to Edwin and Kathleen Browning Allen.

Joyce grew up and attended schools in Willits, Calif., where she graduated from Willits Union High School in 1947 as her class valedictorian. She attended the University of California, Berkeley after high school, returning to complete her degree in geography in 1973. While in college she met Robert E. Dye, and the couple were united in marriage in Berkeley, Calif. on March 24, 1950. The couple spent their first few summers working for the U.S. Forest Service at fire watch lookouts. Joyce continued her career with the U.S. Forest Service as a clerk, computer programmer and systems analyst until her retirement in 1986. The couple lived in Lakeview for five years and Burns for an additional four years. In 1960 they moved to Walnut Creek, Calif., where she lived until moving to Hermiston in 2006. She had resided in Boardman for the past four years. Joyce enjoyed being active in the community and was active in Altrusa, Friends of the Library, Good Shepherd Hospital Auxiliary and Festival of Trees, as well as participating in other service opportunities in her community. She enjoyed doing genealogy and family history research, completing crossword puzzles and gardening.

She is survived by a son, Steve Dye; daughter, Susan Booher; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her two siblings, Jack and Margaret.

No services will be held.
