The defendant in the case of the March 11 hit-and-run in Hermiston now faces the new charge of second-degree manslaughter.
A Umatilla County grand jury on March 16 already indicted Anthony Solis Lemus, 25, of Hermiston, on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and counts for felony assault on Jennifer Whelan, 43.
She suffered serious injuries in the hit-and-run and was on life support until her family ended those measures March 16.
Umatilla County District Attorney Dan Primus said he reconvened the grand jury, which amended the indictment March 23, adding the manslaughter charge.
Lemus’s defense attorney, Brandon Foy of Hermiston, filed a motion March 21 seeking his client’s release from jail. The court has not ruled on the request. Lemus’ next court appearance is April 3 for a pretrial conference.
