The Hermiston Police Department recently identified a vehicle that may have been involved in several thefts from motor vehicles in the Hermiston area.

HPD addressed the issue on its Facebook page. According to the HPD, many of the theft complaints have occurred in the Highland Summit area. The department received home security recordings from local citizens that showed a “suspicious vehicle” with several people inside. The vehicle is seen pulling into neighborhoods where the people would exit the car and begin checking for unlock car doors.

On Tuesday morning, HPD officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call involving a gray Kia with Washington plates occupied by several people. The officers found the Kia and attempted contact, but the driver failed to stop. Officers initiated a pursuit, which continued to the Washington/Oregon border. Due to speed and traffic safety concerns the pursuit was terminated, and Washington State Patrol was notified.

The vehicle was identified as a Kia crossover or small SUV, possibly a 2017 Kia Sportage, with Washington plates AJH0364. The HPD said Washington DMV records indicated a second associated Washington plate of CFM7255, also linked to a white Kia Sportage, suggesting the vehicle’s plates may have been switched. Further investigation determined the plate on the pursued Kia were stolen last week out of Pasco, Wash.

The Kia’s driver was described as a white adult female with dark brown hair pulled back, perhaps into a ponytail. She appeared to be wearing a hooded jacket with yellow, blue, and possibly pink markings. The Hermiston police are asking anyone who may recognize the woman’s description, or saw her around town recently, to give them a call.
