Summer vacation comes to a close and teachers are returning to their classrooms to prepare for the coming academic year. Stanfield students will return to the classroom first while Echo and Hermiston start later.
Stanfield
School starts Monday, Aug. 21, for the Stanfield School District.
Stanfield School District Superintendent Beth Burton posted information regarding the district’s bus routes on the school’s live feed, which can be found on its website www.stanfield.k12.or.us.
“We are working really hard to avoid shrinking routes or enforcing the ‘Walk Zone.’ Those students in grades K-8 who live within 1 mile of the school would be ineligible for bus transportation. High school students who live within 1.5 miles would be ineligible,” Burton wrote.

Echo
For the Echo School District, the first day of school is Aug. 28.
School supply lists can be found on the district website at bit.ly/3qpflk7. Grades spanning from first to junior high have more expansive supply lists while high school students are needed to bring much less — writing utensils, notebooks, binders, dividers and a TI-30 calculator.

Hermiston
The first day of school for Hermiston students is Aug. 30.
In the Hermiston School District, students won’t need to purchase lunches or school supplies. The entire district has been CEP-approved approved for the 2023-24 school year, meaning all enrolled students can receive free breakfast and lunch while at school.
On June 12, Hermiston School District announced the district would be providing essential school supplies to the students as well.
On the school district website, bit.ly/3s99csO, parents can find information regarding vaccines students should have prior to starting school, grouped in four different age groups.
Parents and students also can navigate the necessary bus routes for students to commute to and from school.
Prior to the first day of school, students entering the ninth grade, their first year of high school, will have an orientation day Aug. 29. The students will meet in the Hermiston High School Purple Gym at 8:30 a.m., with lunch and bussing will be provided.
