A full day of food, games, exhibits and entertainment will unfold during the eighth annual Hermiston FunFest on Saturday, July 13 in downtown Main Steet.

Because you’re going to need to start the day with a full stomach, the Hermiston Rotary Club will be serving breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on North Second Street, prior to the kickoff of the day’s events. Kids are encouraged to dress up and grab their favorite teddy bear for the annual Teddy Bear Parade at 9:30 a.m. in front of Sherrell Chevrolet on Main Street.

Making their return to FunFest is the Outlaw Lawn Mower Dragsters, who will be revving their engines and racing down Main Street. Other events include the Bear in the Box chainsaw carving group, as well as the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. OMSI will provide hands-on exhibits for the entire family from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the former Hermiston Herald building.

The Tri-Cities Youth Steel Drum Band will be performing and the Hermiston Melon Smashers roller derby team will give an exhibition performance.

Entertainment will be provided throughout the day on the Main Stage, including a performance by former Boardman resident and American Idol contestant Lee Pritchard.

There will be plenty for children to do during FunFest, including activities and games and chances to win prizes. Hermiston Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Debbie Pedro said more than 50 vendor booths will be set up in the downtown area.

The day’s events extend beyond Main Street and include the Cool Rides Car Show at McKenzie Park and the Purple Ridge Lavender Festival benefitting the Agape House. The lavender festival will include art displays, music, wine tasting and the chance to walk through the lavender fields. A shuttle bus will be available to take people from the downtown area out to the lavender farm on Saturday.

The 2013 Hermiston FunFest is sponsored by HAPO Community Credit Union, KOHU/The Q and the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce.
