Twenty-five-year-old Baron Fenwick has performed throughout the United States, accompanied by the Flint Symphony Orchestra, the Western Piedmont Symphony, the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, and the Mannes Orchestra, among others. On Sunday, Feb. 23, Fenwick will perform a recital at the Pendleton Center for the Arts (PCA) in the Pearson Auditorium.
The event is free, through a special partnership with Portland Piano International’s Rising Stars program.
Fenwick graduated with a Master of Music diploma from Mannes College of Music in New York City, where he studied on a full scholarship with Vladimir Feltsman and Pavlina Dokovska. Previously he received a bachelor’s degree in music at Mannes. He has studied with American pianist Susan Starr, as well as University of North Carolina School of the Arts professor Clifton Matthews and Appalachian State University professor Bair Shagdaron. Originally from Boone, N.C., he now lives in New York City.
As the winner of the 2018 Mannes Concerto Competition, Baron performed Leonard Bernstein’s “Age of Anxiety” with the Mannes Orchestra this season. In 2017 he was a laureate of the Ravel Prix at the historic Fontainebleau Conservatoire, and in summer 2016 he received first prize in competitions at two major music festivals: the Dorothy MacKenzie Artist Recognition Award at the International Keyboard Institute and Festival, and the piano solo competition at the Beijing International Music Festival and Academy.
For the PCA recital Fenwick will perform music by Haydn, Rachmaninov, Chopin and Prokofiev.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m., and the recital begins at 2 p.m. Well-behaved children are welcome. For more information contact the Pendleton Center for the Arts at 541-278-9201.
