Adelle Mavis Anson passed away peacefully at her home on Dec. 16, 2023 at the age of 94.
She was born on Jan. 21, 1929 in Deerwood, Minn. to Richard Fort and Ruth Olson Fort.
In 1942, the family decided to move from Minnesota to Seattle. Along the way, they were told that the jobs were in Hermiston with the building of McNary Dam. This is how the family set their roots in Hermiston. After graduating from Hermiston High School, Adelle took her first job as a telephone operator in Heppner. Later, she worked as a bookkeeper for Hermiston Livestock and Inland Feed and Seed. In 1948, she married Walter Liebe and had five children, Shirley, David, Daniel, John, and Steve. In 1965 she married her second husband, Delbert Anson, and gained two stepdaughters, Phyllis Thornburg and Betty Reitman.
Adelle was a hard worker and a studious individual. She went back to college while raising a family and graduated from Eastern Oregon University with a degree in secondary education in 1972. She started her student teaching in Hermiston but decided to pursue a career in accounting. She earned her CPA certificate in 1975. After graduation she worked for Al Langenwalter Jr., Simplot, and ECOAC in Pendleton.
Adelle was an active member of Living Faith Church and a devout believer in Jesus Christ. She was a prayer warrior, spent a lot of her time reading the Bible and meeting with her friends for Bible study, and she was a Sunday school teacher. In her younger years she played the piano and the accordion at Hermiston Church of God.
Adelle was an adventurous woman who loved life. She loved to hike and travel and took pride in parasailing at the age of 70. She also played an active role in
raising all her grandchildren. She was everyone’s grandma. We love you mom, and you will be missed dearly.
Adelle is survived by sons, David Liebe and John (Martha) Liebe of Hermiston; sister, Esther Maxwell, Springfield, Mo.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Anson; her parents, Richard and Ruth Fort; daughter, Shirley (Liebe) Tannahill; sons, Daniel Liebe and Stephen Liebe; stepdaughter, Phyllis Thornburg; and sister, Florence Brown.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
