Allen Ray Shields of Hermiston passed away in Richland, Wash. of COVID-19 complications on Oct. 31, 2020 at the age of 72.
He was born on Jan. 10, 1948 in Salem to Roy and Gladys “Jean” Smith Shields.
Allen graduated from South Salem High School in 1966 and shortly thereafter joined the Army in 1967. He served in Vietnam for one year before being transferred to Fort Hood, Texas. He was honorably discharged in 1970 with the rank of sergeant.
He will be missed by all. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Janet; brothers, Denny (Connie) Saunders, Donald (Margaret), David (Julie) and Geoff (Hazel); two daughters, Connie (Trevor) Graybeal and Erin (Patrick); son, Mike (Lupe); four grandsons, Jacob, Alex, Nathan and Sullivan; granddaughter, Erin (Steven) Cordell; and two great granddaughters, Elisabeth and Ottavia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Jean Shields; sister, Karen; and granddaughter, Laura.
A private family service with military honors will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland with burial to follow.
