Arthur “Art” Starkey of Florence passed away on March 16, 2024 at the age of 73.
Art was born in The Dalles on Dec. 29, 1950 to Harold and Mable Wetherell Starkey.
Art lived in Arlington until he was about 5 years old when the family moved to Hermiston, where he was raised and graduated from Hermiston High School. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 22 years before retiring due to medical issues. He was an avid car fan all of his life, having raced as well as built them. His passion for fishing over the years was unsurpassed by any other interest until he met Colleen. Art and Colleen met online and were married on June 25, 2005 on the beach in Winchester Bay. They made many wonderful memories together over the years. He will be sorely missed by both family and friends.
Art is survived by his wife, Colleen Starkey (Grant); his children, Jason Starkey, Jesse Starkey, Amanda Brandenberg (Reed, Starkey), and Corrinna Reed (Starkey); his siblings, Virginia Briggs (Gary), Molly Van Cleave (Eddie), Harriet Starkey, and Allan Starkey (Sharon); his grandchildren, JoAnn Kindred, Justice Kindred, and Jewelz Kindred. Art is also survived by many cousins whom he loved to spend time with at the reunions.
He was predeceased by his parents and a nephew.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the Arlington Cemetery.
