The four-year cohort graduation rate for the Athena-Weston School District is up nearly 3 percentage points from the previous year and nearly 11 percent higher than the statewide graduation rate.
The Oregon Department of Education released statewide graduation rate data for the class of 2023 on Thursday, Jan. 25.
The district’s four-year cohort graduation rate (students who earn their regular diploma in four years) for the 2022-2023 academic year is 92.2 percent, up from last year’s rate of 89.3 percent.
The district’s 92.2 percent graduation rate compares to the statewide rate of 81.3 percent.
Athena-Weston School District’s five-year cohort completer rate for the 22-23 academic year is 91.2 percent. This rate includes students who received a modified diploma and those who earned their diplomas but had not yet received them because they were returning for a fifth year of high school to earn college credits. Completers currently include students who earn a diploma type (Oregon regular and modified diplomas, extended diplomas, or Adult High School diplomas) as well as students who earn a General Equivalency Degree (GED).
The 91.2 percent rate is 7.9 percentage points higher than the previous year’s five-year cohort completer rate of 83.3%
Superintendent Ann Vescio said the graduation rate increases reflect the efforts of the entire Weston-McEwen High School team in supporting students who have faced the challenge of attending high school during and following an unprecedented global pandemic. Some of the district efforts are:
