A woman found dead in Milton-Freewater has been identified as 20-year-old Shelby Lynn Cunningham.
Cunningham was previously reported as a missing person out of Milton-Freewater.
On Feb. 18, the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Cache Hollow Road and Walla Walla River Road in Milton-Freewater regarding a report of a possible deceased person. Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy Todd Siex responded and was able to confirm there was a deceased female in the area. Due to the location of the body, assistance from the Umatilla County Search and Rescue team was requested for recovery.
The Sheriff’s office subsequent investigation, in cooperation with the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office and Milton-Freewater Police Department, developed sufficient information to identify the woman as Cunningham.
The sheriff’s office is continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death and will release further information when available.
