Barb Green

Barbara R. “Barb” Green of Umatilla passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 29, 2023 in Hermiston at the age of 75.

She was born on Dec. 19, 1947 in Roanoke, Ala.

Barb’s father was in the Air Force and she moved frequently during her childhood, residing in several states including Arizona and Arkansas. She attended Wedowee High School, where she was involved in many activities including cheerleading. She graduated from Jacksonville High School in Arkansas in 1966. She married Delbert Merl Green in Wedowee, Ala. on Dec. 9, 1967 after they met at Jacksonville Air Force Base in Arkansas. After marrying, the happy couple returned to Oregon and raised two children in Umatilla.

Barb dedicated her life to being an active, involved, and loving parent and wife. Early in their marriage she supported Del through many softball games and basketball games all over three states. As a parent, she attended every single activity that her children were involved in, often transporting many kids to and from games and practices. She also hosted many birthday and slumber parties.

Barbara worked full time for 26 years at Umatilla School District as a special education assistant and worked weekends at Columbia Crest Winery as a tour guide, becoming somewhat of a wine connoisseur. She was passionate about teaching children and cared deeply for her students. Barbara’s hobbies included sewing, clog dancing, and reading. Her biggest joy was participating in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives.

Barbara is survived by Del, her husband of 55 years; her daughter, Misty of La Grande and her son, Rusty of Warrenton. Other surviving family members include siblings Butch, Matt, and Charlotte of Alabama; grandchildren, Kaden and Corinne and their father Tim; and Jaaron and Jalen and their mother Candy.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Dorthy Rice; her father, Herbert Rice; her sister, Annette Waters; and her great grandson, Blake Hines.
