Bill Miller Passes Away at 76

William A. “Bill” Miller of Hermiston died on Dec. 29, 2022 in Nampa, Idaho at the age of 76.

He was born on Aug. 30, 1946 in Grand Junction, Colo. to Bruce and Alice Moore Miller.

Bill was raised and attended schools in Garibaldi before the family moved to Athena, where he finished school. He then joined the United States Navy in 1964 and served three tours in Vietnam, and spent time throughout the South Pacific before his honorable discharge in 1974. Bill lived in Hermiston and worked as a mechanic for Lamb Weston. He was united in marriage to Gloria Senn on March 7, 1980 in Hermiston. Bill later worked as a carman for Union Pacific Railroad until retiring in 2008. He then worked for Home Depot for five years, retiring for good.

Bill was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed hunting, four-wheeling, camping, the outdoors, woodworking, riding his Harley and most of all, time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gloria Miller, Hermiston; sons, Lonny Miller (Lacey), Salmon, Idaho, Donald Miller, California, and TJ Miller (Hannah), Enterprise; stepsons, Tad Herrera (Cindy), Hermiston and Tracy Herrera, Hermiston; sister, Erna Staats, Hermiston; 13 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Bob Staats.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1035 S.E. Ninth St., Hermiston.

Burial with military honors will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
