William R. “Bill” Scheel, longtime Portland area resident, died on June 27, 2016 in Hermiston at the age of 59.
He was born on Feb. 11, 1957 in Portland to Ronald and Diane Lavalle Scheel. Bill was raised and attended schools in Portland before moving to Irrigon in 1973. He married Kathy on June 4, 1977 in Pasco, Wash. To this union two sons were born, Leon and Ronald. They later divorced and Bill returned to Portland. He worked as a commercial and residential painter for Ofstead Painting for several years before he retired. This gave Bill an opportunity to chase his lifelong dream of owning a sailboat. He lived on and refurbished his sailboat in Westport for the last several years. Bill enjoyed fishing and his sailboat.
He is survived by his sons: Leon Scheel & his wife Lori, Stanfield, OR, and Ronnie Scheel, Echo, OR; grandson: Ben; brother: Dan Scheel, Portland, OR; sisters: Kelly Anderson, Cannon Beach, OR, and Kathy Bellant, Gresham, OR; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bill was preceded in death by his longtime companion: Linda VorHees and his mother.
A family celebration gathering will be held.
