Blue Mountain Community College women’s basketball player Miah Slater was honored with the Northwest Athletic Conference Winter Academic Excellence Award for her achievement in the classroom as a student-athlete during the winter term.
Slater, a 5’11” sophomore forward from Elgin, finished the winter term with a 4.0 GPA – the third time she’s done so in five terms at BMCC.
“Miah has been a tremendous asset to our program,” said BMCC head women’s basketball coach Adam Driver. “She has been a leader both on the court and in the classroom. She is a perfectionist; if she is struggling with something, she will put in the hours of work required until she gets it right. It has been an honor to have the opportunity to coach Miah the last two years, and she is truly deserving of this recognition.”
To qualify for the NWAC Academic Excellence Award, a student-athlete must be a sophomore in eligibility, have a minimum of 36 credits earned, and a 3.25 cumulative GPA.
