The Betty Feves Memorial Gallery is partnering with Playtime Education to engage preschoolers with art in a gallery setting, as well as highlight the students’ artwork.

As part of Playtime Education’s regular programming, Family Nights are held to involve parents and families with their preschoolers in fun and informative activities. The Feves Gallery is hosting the group for their February Family Night.

The preschool students and their families will view the Watercolor Society of Oregon Traveling Show exhibit in the Feves Gallery. Students and families will then create their own
watercolor creations in a hands-on activity designed to encourage artistic collaboration between parents and children.

In conjunction with the Playtime Education Family Night, a display of artwork the preschoolers have created at school is on view in the main hallway outside the President’s Office in Pioneer Hall. The display includes watercolor paintings and illustrated alphabet cards, and are accompanied by teacher statements about the lesson plans and the connections made between art and literacy, science, language and fine motor skill development. The show will be on display through Feb. 5.

“We are excited to host a Family Night and thrilled to have the display of student artwork not only brightening the hallway, but also showing how art can be used in a preschool setting to teach young learners about language and science,” said Lori Sams, Feves Gallery director. “It’s also great for Blue Mountain Community College’s Early Childhood Education students to see these project examples.” Early Childhood Education students to see these project examples.”

Playtime Education, based in Pendleton and owned and operated by Amber and Rory Rittenbach, provides a preschool setting with full day childcare. The environment offers a day of play while learning important life skills for children ages 3 to school-age.

The Watercolor Society of Oregon Traveling Show exhibit at the Feves Gallery is on display until Feb. 15. The Feves Gallery is open Monday-Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and by appointment by calling (541) 278-5952. It is located in BMCC’s Pioneer Hall on the Pendleton Campus at 2411 NW Carden Avenue.
