Blue Mountain Community College will start the new year with a new art gallery director.
Lori Sams was recently hired by BMCC as the new Betty Feves Memorial Art Gallery director. The part-time position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the gallery, including identifying artists, fundraising and coordinating volunteer activities.
Sams started her new role on Dec. 8, and has a varied background in the art world. She received her bachelor of arts in art studio from California State University Chico. She serves as an instructor for the Pendleton Center for the Arts, where she also serves as an Exhibition Committee member. She also has served as secretary for Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts in Pendleton.
The Betty Feves Memorial Art Gallery – named after the late famed local artist Betty Feves – is a non-profit exhibit space in BMCC’s Pioneer Hall that connects emerging and established artists and their work with students, staff and the general public in Eastern Oregon. Among the exhibits, visitors can encounter regional artists, student and faculty work, group shows, and traveling shows from state and federal exhibits.
The gallery is open Monday-Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
