Dawn DiFuria McClendon, the director of Outreach and Leadership for Blue Mountain Community College, has been named to the 2017 “40 Under 40” list for the American Association of Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC). The award, which was announced Monday, recognizes women who exemplify the values of AAWCC, which supports women in community colleges.
DiFuria McClendon, who has worked for BMCC for three years, oversees the student outreach, recruitment and student life programs at the College. Her guidance in the Outreach and Leadership office has helped to expand BMCC’s presence in local high schools, build and strengthen the College’s strategic enrollment management plan, and create a welcoming and fun atmosphere at BMCC for students.
“I am honored to receive this award and stand among strong women, because they’re the ones building others up,” DiFuria McClendon said. “My work offers me this opportunity every day, to inspire, motivate and empower.”
As a member of the BMCC chapter of AAWCC, DiFuria McClendon has been heavily involved in several chapter-sponsored activities, including most recently the “Day of Dialogue” to raise awareness of sexual violence against women. She also guides the Associated Student Government students and their annual community Christmas Eve Dinner.
