Three Blue Mountain Community College softball players and one baseball player have been selected to play in the Northwest Athletic Conference’s (NWAC) Sophomore Showcases this Saturday.
These two Showcase events are opportunities for four-year college athletic recruiters and professional scouts to see some of the best sophomore community college softball and baseball players in the Northwest.
BMCC baseball first baseman Tanner Heiman, of Richland, Wash., who is working towards his Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer (AAOT) degree, made the cut with a .305 batting average, 5 home runs and 13 RBIs.
“Tanner worked extremely hard as a freshman on the baseball field, in the weight room, and in the classroom to have a great freshman year at Blue Mountain,” said Brad Baker, Head BMCC Baseball Coach. “This is a great opportunity and honor to be selected to this team and play in front of numerous four-year school coaches and professional scouts.”
Heiman will join 27 other NWAC East Region players and 16 position players and 12 pitchers from the three other NWAC regions at Bellevue College near Seattle this Saturday for the Baseball Sophomore Showcase. BMCC Head Softball Coach Steve Richards is proud to announce three players made the cut.
The Softball Sophomore Showcase takes place Saturday at Delta Park in Portland and will feature BMCC standouts Megan Ulery, Sarah Bonner and Lauren Cagle. Ulery, a pre-nursing student from Keizer, Ore., was the Lady Timberwolves’ leading pitcher last season, and hit .352 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs. Bonner, of Billings, Mont., is working towards her AAOT, and was BMCC’s utility player last year, hitting leadoff most of the season and leading the team with a .403 batting average.
Cagle, of Susanville, Calif., is also working towards her AAOT and hit .290 while also playing solid defense this past season for the Timberwolves.
