A Blue Mountain Community College volleyball player and softball player both signed national letters of intent to continue their collegiate athletic careers at four-year schools this week.
Sophomore volleyball player Jordan Mix has signed with Division II Montana State University – Billings, while sophomore softball player Sydney Saxton Siaki has signed with Ottawa University in Surprise, Ariz.
Mix, who’sfrom Kennewick, Wash.,signed her letter of intent Wednesday (April 26) alongside BMCC Head Coach Jessica Humphries. As an outside hitter, Mix was a starting player for both of her seasons at BMCC, and was a member of the Northwest Athletic Conference Championship team in 2015. In 2016, Mix was named to the NWAC All-East Region First Team, thanks to her 233 kills on the season and 0.222% hitting percentage.
“She was definitely a leader in court performance,” Humphries said. Mix will go on to study health and human performance with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. Her 3.5 GPA helped earn her a full ride scholarship to MSU-Billings. Mix said her time at BMCC has really helped her to prepare for going to a university.
“Being away from home has helped me realize how important family is,” said Mix. “I’m going to miss the closeness I had with my team.”
Saxton Siaki is a sophomore outfielder from Irvine, Calif., who this season leads the team in doubles with 14, and is currently hitting a 0.419 average. Ottawa University is based in Kansas and just opened a new school in Arizona, so Saxton Siaki will play for the inaugural softball team for the Spirits.
“Sydney became a real team leader here at BMCC,” said BMCC Head Softball Coach Steve Richards. “She leads by example – she puts in the work every day, and plays the game hard and plays the game honest.”
Saxton Siaki, who holds a 3.2 GPA, will study education with the goal of becoming a speech pathologist to work in special education. Though she’s looking forward to the warmer Arizona weather, Saxton Siaki said she’ll definitely miss “my girls” on her BMCC team. She said she’s learned a few things during her time as a Timberwolf.
“I’ve learned who I am – I finally grew up,” Saxton Siaki said. “I got used to who I am and finally accepted me for me.”
