Blue Mountain Community College’s men’s and women’s rodeo teams continue to dominate the college rodeo Northwest Region standings following a successful weekend at the Northwest Regional #3 and #4 rodeos in Milton-Freewater April 14-15.
The women’s team won both days, with Danyelle Williams, Quincy Pendergrass and Lauren Leyva taking the top three spots, respectively, in the women’s all-around in Northwest Regional #3 on April 14. The men’s team came in first place overall on April 14 and second place on April 15, with Johnny Espeland taking home the men’s all-around title at Northwest Regional #3. He also notched the top spots that day in saddle bronc riding and bareback riding (which he also won on April 15).
At Northwest Regional #3, Williams also landed in first in barrel racing, while Layva and Pendergrass took home the top two spots, respectively, in goat tying, and Kaylee Aldrich came in first in breakaway roping.
At Northwest Regional #4 on April 15, Chaise Robbins and Cole White topped the leaderboard in team roping (header and healer, respectively), while Pendergrass, Williams, Jessica Lewis and Tiffanee Lewis took home the top four places, respectively, in barrel racing.
Both teams remain #1 in the Northwest Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, with the men 708 points ahead of second place Walla Walla Community College, and the women 2,801.38 points ahead of second place Treasure Valley Community College. Williams also leads the Northwest Region in the women’s all-around, while Espeland leads the region in bareback riding. Williams, Lewis and Pendergrass also lead the region in barrel racing, in that order, while Aldrich, Williams and Leyva lead the pack in breakaway roping. The BMCC women’s team, which is the reigning two-time National Champion, currently sits in fifth place in the national rankings.
BMCC will host its annual Northwest Regional Finals Rodeo April 28-29 at the Umatilla County Fairgrounds in Hermiston.
