Blue Mountain Community College will provide two opportunities for community members to learn about the issues surrounding its pool, as well as provide feedback regarding the pool’s future, on July 28 and Aug. 3 in the McCrae Activity Center. Each meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. and are open to the public.
Both meetings will provide a tour of the pool area, provide information regarding the pool’s current usage, expenses, and cost estimates for repair. Community members who attend will be encouraged to provide input on how the pool may be maintained in the future, as well as how to partner to fund the pool’s $2.3 million in required maintenance and upgrades.
An $850,000 upgrade to the pool was earmarked as part of a failed 2013 BMCC bond measure. When the community helped determine priority projects for what became the successful 2015 bond, the pool was not included. Upon further inspection, additional safety and maintenance issues were identified since 2013, and a professional inspection revealed the pool would need a complete renovation. Recommended repairs to bring the pool up to standards necessary for continued use are estimated at $2.3 million.
