Blue Mountain Community College will break ground on the second of three major construction projects approved by voters in its May 2015 bond measure this Wednesday, May 25.
BMCC will host a groundbreaking ceremony at 2 p.m. Wednesday for the Workforce Training Center on the facility’s future site on property at the Port of Morrow in Boardman, adjacent to the SAGE Center. The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony.
BMCC President Cam Preus will be on hand, as will Port of Morrow Executive Director Gary Neal, several BMCC Board members and representatives from BMCC’s bond project management firm Frew Development Group and contractor for the project, McCormack Construction.
The future Workforce Training Center will house BMCC’s mechatronics, data center technician and early childhood education programs. In addition, it will have classroom space for other classes offered at BMCC. Upon completion of the center, the BMCC Boardman Center will move into the new facility. BMCC students in the early childhood education program will have access to hands-on learning with children at the Port of Morrow’s early learning center, which will be constructed next to BMCC’s Workforce Training Center.
The project is expected to be completed in winter 2017.
BMCC will break ground on its third major bond construction project in Pendleton – the Facility for Agricultural Resource Management (FARM) – on June 13 at 2 p.m. on the Pendleton campus. BMCC will also begin work on upgrades to electrical and HVAC systems, as well as natural gas line repairs, this summer.
Voters approved BMCC’s $23 million capital construction bond in May 2015, which included all of these projects, as well as the Precision Irrigated Agriculture Center in Hermiston. The bond also addresses additional safety, security and technology improvements, and improvements to the Milton-Freewater Center.
