Boardman Fourth Grader to Participate in Track Championship

Pedro Alejandra Chavez, a fourth-grade student from Windy River Elementary School, has qualified to participate in the TrackTown Youth League Championship Meet on June 9. The meet will be held at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene.

Chavez will compete in the 100 meter, 400 meter and long jump events. He participates in the local community track program. While in Eugene, he will have the opportunity to watch the NCAA Track and Field Championship meet, which happens before the TrackTown meet.

The TrackTown meet will feature more than 500 of the top youth athletes from around the state. The TrackTown Youth League is open to all boys and girls ages 7 to 14 and according to the website “was created to encourage Oregon youth from all backgrounds and income levels to become healthy and active members of the community and inspire youth to participate in track and field.”
