The Boardman City Council voted Tuesday night to increase the city’s garbage rate beginning Oct. 1.
The increase is in response to a rate increase by the city’s garbage contractor, Sanitary Disposal, Inc. of Hermiston. Mike Jewett of Sanitary Disposal told the council they were increasing the fee to the city due to an increase in operating expenses for Boardman, at about 7.2 percent overall.
The last increase in garbage rates in Boardman was in 2013. The cost of a 90-gallon residential cart will go from $11 per month to $12.10 per month. Other types of garbage services will increase anywhere from 1 percent to 14 percent.
