The Oregon State Police Explosives Unit was called to a Pendleton residence on Wednesday after two suspicious devices were found during an attempt to evict the residents.
Around 10:30 a.m., the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on Brower Lane in Pendleton for enforcement of a court ordered eviction of Travis Laib and all occupants. Laib, 35, of Pendleton, was arrested on Tuesday on the felony charges of first-degree assault, felon in possession of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon, as well as misdemeanor charges of menacing and reckless endangering. Those charges stem from a shooting in Pendleton on Jan. 6.
Laib was in custody at the time and remains there, said UCSO Capt. Sterrin Ward this morning.
While clearing the residence, conditions of a secured room raised concerns about safety, according to the sheriff’s office. The Oregon State Police Explosives Unit responded to the scene. Two suspicious devices were found and secured for further testing.
All law enforcement cleared the scene without further incident and the sheriff’s office returned the residence into the possession of the landlord in compliance with the court order. An investigation into the found devices is ongoing at this time.
