Bonny Abel Passes Away at 48

Bonny Kay Abel passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 23, 2018 at her home in Hermiston at the age of 48.

She was born on Aug. 8, 1970 in La Grande to Mack and Edna Harnar Abel.

Bonny was raised in Hermiston. She attended Hermiston and Echo schools, graduating from Echo High School in the class of 1988. Bonny worked for many years as a teacher’s assistant for the ESD program and Head Start in Hermiston. She truly enjoyed teaching and loved the children she taught. The children always went home praising about “Teacher Bonny.” Bonny was loved not only by her family, but by her many children as well.

She enjoyed camping, gardening, mowing the yard with the riding lawn mower, crafts, horseback riding, and her numerous farm animals. Bonny cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as her entire family and countless friends.

She is survived by her fiancée, Gregory Rodgers, Hermiston; father and stepmother, Mack Abel and Susan, Hermiston; children, Derek Harmon and his wife Sarah, Hermiston, Kaylee Harmon, Spokane, Wash. and William “Gunner” Rodgers, Hermiston; brother, Roy Kessel and wife Bonnie, Hermiston; sister, Brandie Aughinbaugh, Hermiston; eight grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bonny was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Abel.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
