Bruce Virgil Passes Away at 69

Bruce Edwin Virgil passed away peacefully in Pendleton on Aug. 27, 2025 from heart failure and went to be with his Lord and Savior.

He was born to John and Mary Herrera Virgil in Sidney, Neb. on Feb. 20, 1956. Bruce was the middle child of five boys – Gary, Mike, Gabe and Rodney – and also had a stepsister, Marla.

Bruce worked 16 years as shop manager at Hermiston Tire and Auto, four years at Morrow County Grain Growers in Lexington before moving to Pendleton, and worked for Pendleton Grain Growers until they closed in 2010. Bruce then went to work at Kenworth Parts and Sales, where he was employed at the time of his death.

Bruce married the love of his life, Christy, in 1994. They enjoyed 31 years of marriage. Bruce enjoyed hunting with his family, horseshoe art, woodburning, fishing and playing darts.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Christy; his children, Brendon, Eric, Cynda and Bryan and step children, Sarah Coller and Joe Bourrie. Bruce also leaves behind 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and brother, Mike.

2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Bruce loved and lived with all his heart, so please remember him with a smile on your face.

A graveside service will take place at Heppner Masonic Cemetery on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025 at 11 a.m.

A reception will immediately follow at the First Christian Church in Heppner. All are welcome to attend.
