The Hermiston Bulldogs kick off the 2017 high school football season today on the road against the Union Titans in a rematch from last year’s season opener.

The Bulldogs will look to avenge last year’s 36-27 home loss to the Titans when they travel to Vancouver today. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

Hermiston is coming off a 5-5 season a year ago in which they tied for second in the conference with a 5-2 record. The Bulldogs’ season ended in the first round of the playoffs, a 12-7 road loss to St. Helens.

The Bulldogs look to field a strong team this season with four of five starting offensive linemen returning and one of the top passing combos in junior quarterback Andrew James and senior receiver Dayshawn Neal.

The defense will only have five starters returning from last year, but the secondary will be virtually intact from a year ago.

The Bulldogs are hoping to get off to a faster start than they did last season when they lost three of their first four games, but came on strong to win four of their final six contests.

Hermiston will return home for a week 2 matchup against Lewiston.
