Dallas-HHS Preview
Hermiston will be without Costa Rodriguez, shown here scoring against Putnam on Aug. 30, when they take on Dallas on Friday. The HHS senior is out with a broken ankle.

The Hermiston Bulldogs will play host to the Dallas Dragons in the round of 16 playoffs on Friday at Kennison Field.

The 7-3 Dragons are coming off a 48-7 blowout of Putnam on Friday, while the 6-3 Bulldogs had a bye week to rest up. The winner of the Dallas-Hermiston game will play the winner of the Summit-West Albany game.

Hermiston is seeded seventh in the 5A playoff bracket, while Dallas is seeded 10th. West Albany is the second seed behind No. 1 seed Sherwood.

Hermiston and Dallas had one common opponent this season – Putnam. Hermiston also trounced Putnam by the same score, 48-7, back on Aug. 30, so there’s little to be gleened from that. But Friday’s matchup could be a tough one for the Bulldogs. Hermiston was dominated by No. 1 Sherwood, 63-9, on Sept. 13. The previous week, Sherwood destroyed West Albany, 48-0 at home. Dallas lost a close one to West Albany, 14-7, on Oct. 10.

So it looks like Hermiston will be playing host to a team (Dallas) that played tough against an opponent (West Albany) that was dominated by a team (Sherwood) that blew out Hermiston. Someone who took a logic course in college might be able to draw a conclusion that Friday’s game against Dallas will be a challenge for Hermiston.

It’s probably better for all concerned to just go to the game Friday and see how it plays out on the field instead of trying to figure out how it looks on paper.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
