Umatilla Chamber Broken Into

Burglars broke into the Umatilla Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center and made off with computers, cash, food and . . . toilet paper.

Chamber Director Karen Hutchinson-Talaski said someone broke into the building sometime between the chamber closing on Monday and early Tuesday morning. The burglar or burglars got in by throwing a boulder through the front glass door.

“It was a foot in diameter,” Hutchinson-Talaski said. “They threw it so hard it slid across the floor and dented the front counter.”

Missing from the chamber on Tuesday morning were a laptop computer, a desktop computer, a printer and a small safe containing $59 in petty cash.

Hutchinson-Talaski laughed at what else was taken.

“They took a half a jar of peanut butter, two English muffins, coffee creamer – the really good kind – and toilet paper,” she said. “They ransacked the place. They went through every drawer. It was a mess.”

But they also left something behind, as well.

“The police found fingerprints everywhere,” Hutchinson-Talaski said.
