An Athena business owner was arrested today for allegedly stealing more than $63,000 from a nonprofit organization where she serves as treasurer.
Robin Lynn Pickard, 39, was arrested by the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) at 11:15 a.m. and charged with first-degree aggravated theft for allegedly writing checks totaling more than $63,000 from the nonprofit’s account over a period of two years.
According to Lt. Sterrin Holcomb, Pickard was appointed treasurer of Sunset Housing, LLC, in November 2016. Sunset Housing owns, operates and maintains housing for the elderly.
Holcomb said that the sheriff’s office was contacted earlier this year regarding allegations that Pickard had been taking money from the Sunset Housing bank accounts.
UCSO detectives investigated the allegations and determined Pickard was associated with multiple bank accounts at multiple banks. Holcomb said “evidence showed she had written multiple checks to herself or her business which resulted in the theft of over $63,000.”
Pickard, who has been lodged in the Umatilla County Jail, owns and operates a tax consulting business, Athena Income Tax Service, LLC. Holcomb said the sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the possibility that there may be other victims.
