Carl Calvin Shaw died Monday, March 18, 2013 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 90.
He was born Feb. 11, 1923 at Lexington to G. Guy and Pearl Lorenia (Glass) Shaw.
Carl was raised in Lexington and in the fifth grade he moved to Hermiston and graduated from Hermiston High School in 1941.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. After the war, he worked for the Farm Bureau for a couple of years. On July 14, 1946, he married Elizabeth Selma Jones in Hermiston. Carl then went to work at the Umatilla Army Depot as a munitions handler and worked there for 28 years. He and his wife volunteered at the Hermiston Senior Center for many years. Carl liked woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth of Hermiston; daughter, Dorothy Jones of Vancouver, Wash.; brother, Asa Shaw of Cottage Grove; and granddaughter, Elaine Berry of Vancouver, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Pearl Shaw; daughter, Betty Johnson; and three brothers, Ray, Hugh Vester, and Lee Shaw.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 2 p.m., at the Hermiston Cemetery.
