Carolyn Hojaboom Passes Away at 83

Carolyn Jo Hojaboom of Umatilla died on June 29, 2022 in Hermiston at the age of 83.

She was born on March 3, 1939 in Seattle, Wash. to William Frank Stentz and Caroline Elizabeth Tinkham Stentz.

Carolyn was raised in Woodinville, Wash. and graduated from Bothell High School in the class of 1957. She married Robert Hojaboom Sr. in 1959. They lived in the Binghamton, N.Y. area, where she worked as a clerk in customer service. In 1991 they moved from Endicott, N.Y. to Umatilla, where she had lived since.

Carolyn volunteered as a cook at the Umatilla Senior Center and as a grandmother in the reading program at McNary Grade School for several years. She was a longtime member of the Umatilla Presbyterian Community Church. Carolyn enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing Yahtzee, Hallmark movies, crocheting, crafts, flowers, baking, and her cat. Grandma was known for her no-bake cookies.

She is survived by her son, Robert Hojaboom Jr. and his wife Sandy, Umatilla; daughters, Carol Roberts and her husband Wayne, Umatilla and Susan Mills, Binghamton, N.Y.; sister, Betty Johnson, Irrigon; grandchildren, Robert III, Paul, Christopher, Heather, William, Elleanor and Andrew; great grandchildren, Robert IV, Jude, Vincent, Jayvion and Jayceon; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hojaboom Sr. in 2020, and her parents.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 1 p.m. at the Umatilla Presbyterian Community Church.
