The first Breakfast of Champions is a little more than two weeks away and the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce is asking the community to help provide a reward for the area’s hard-working students.

Three times a year the chamber recognizes and rewards students in kindergarten through 12th grade for their grades, behavior and academic success.

“We believe that our Breakfast of Champions builds confidence in students, ensures repeat performance of excellent standards, and evokes their desire to continually perform at a better level,” said Tracy Hunter, member services representative for the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce.

The first Breakfast of Champions is set for Oct. 10 with future breakfasts scheduled for Jan. 16 and April 17. During the events, two students from each school in Hermiston, Echo, Stanfield and Umatilla are recognized. Each student honored receives a certificate from the chamber as well as one from State Rep. Greg Smith, along with a goodie bag and breakfast.

The chamber is seeking cash sponsorships of $150, $250 or $500 to help with the costs of the breakfasts, certificates and goodie bags. The chamber also accepts donated items for the goodie bags such as T-shirts, gift certificates, water bottles and other items.
