Chance Townsend Passes Away at 37

Chance T. Townsend of Prosser, Wash., former longtime resident of Hermiston, died on Feb. 10, 2024 near Paterson, Wash. at the age of 37.

He was born on July 29, 1986 in Arlington, Texas to Howard and Verna Hickox Townsend.

Chance was raised in Hermiston where he attended West Park, Armand Larive and Hermiston High School, playing lacrosse. He graduated from HHS in the class of 2005 and then went to the University of Idaho, playing lacrosse and graduating with a degree in history. Chance then joined the United States Army in 2010 and served during Operation New Dawn in Iraq before his honorable discharge in 2016. He lived in Sand Point, Idaho until 2019 when he moved to Prosser, Wash., where he had lived since.

Chance was a great artist who enjoyed lacrosse, Warhammer tournaments and Wasteland Weekend in California.

He is survived by his mother, Verna Yoes and her husband Steve, Prosser, Wash.; sister, Zshalie Kellison and her husband Julian, Hermiston; grandmother, Patricia Mellin, Salem; niece, Emmaree; nephews, Kenneth and Aidan; his beloved cat, Athena; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Chance was preceded in death by his father.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 1 p.m. at New Hope Community Church, 1350 S. Highway 395, Hermiston.
