Charlotte Saunders Passes Away at Age 62

Charlotte R. Darby Saunders died on Jan. 10, 2015 at her home in Hermiston at the age of 62.

She was born on April 27, 1952 in Pasco, Wash., to George and Annie Parsons Darby. Charlotte was raised in Finley, Wash. She graduated from Riverview High School in 1970. Charlotte spent her lifetime helping others. In 1980 she became a certified nursing assistant at the Moore Mansion. She continued as a CNA at St. Anthony Hospital in 1984 until 1991 when she found her calling with TLC Home Health and Vange John Memorial Hospice in Hermiston.

She worked there until 2012 when both she and her husband Paul were both battling health issues. Charlotte and Paul were together for over 40 years when Paul passed in November of 2013. She enjoyed family vacations, was an avid reader, playing games (she was the rule master), most of all time with her babies. Charlotte was always active with her children’s activities, coaching soccer and the Hermiston High School Marching Band for many years.

She is survived by her son, Clifford Saunders (Rebecka) Richland, WA; daughter, Paula Messenger (Pat D.), Hermiston; brothers, LeRoy, George Jr., & Ray; sisters, Doris, Margaret, Florence, Annie, Rosetta, & Betty Jo; 20 grandchildren; several “adopted children grandchildren”; several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents; stepdad, Richard Mattern; and siblings, Floyd, Pearl, Charles, and an infant brother.
