As always, there’s plenty going on at Hermiston High School. Here’s a sneak peek into what last week looked like for our HHS students, as well as some upcoming deadlines and events.
Chess Club – Our Chess Club has two announcements from this past week: one being that our own Oscar Galdamez was able to go up and compete against the top 17 high school chess players across the state. The second announcement pertains to the event that the club hosted on Friday, April 15 that adjourned the Bullldog chess club for the year. The event was open to the public to come in, play chess, and drink some refreshments. It ran from 4-6 p.m. and was held in the Hermiston High Library. This was the last event for the chess club until it starts back up again in the 2016-2017 school year.
West Point – On Saturday, April 23, there will be an informational meeting in Clackamas for students to learn about West Point. The meeting takes place from 2 to 4 p.m.
Opportunity for the Class of 2016 – Seniors are invited to apply to a position to prevent and fight wildfires. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is looking to hire HHS 2016 graduates this summer and perhaps spark interests in that career field.
Elections – The election for HHS ASB Executive Officers is approaching fast! The upcoming vote will be for the following offices: ASB President, ASB Vice president, ASB Secretary, ASB Treasurer, and ASB School Board Representative. The deadline for students who would like to apply for one of these positions is April 20. If there are any questions, students are encouraged to talk to Mr. Rohrman.
Link Crew – Last Friday was the last day for juniors and sophomores to apply to be in Link Crew, a nearly new program (in its second year at Hermiston High) that was adopted to help incoming freshmen adapt to the changes from middle school to Hermiston High School.
Assembly – The Spring Sports Assembly occurred on April 13 during the “Connections” period that occurs on Wednesdays. Many teachers and students spoke about the activities, sports, and events that were coming up. Prom was one of these events; the dance will be on May 7. Baseball games are coming up, as well as tennis and many more. Hermiston High won’t rest until we’re the best!
Destination College – The HHS club called ‘Destination College’ hosted an event for students who wanted to explore college opportunities. It was a pizza and college preview night, last Wednesday. Any age of high schooler was encouraged to attend and check out possible options for post-high school education.
