Chiawani Tops HHS, 41-12

The Chiawana Riverhawks handed the Hermiston Bulldogs their third straight loss Friday night in Pasco, 41-12.

Chiawana opened the scoring on its first possession when quarterback J.P. Zamora connected with Kade Smith on a 10-yard touchdown pass to put the Riverhawks up, 6-0.

Hermiston (0-3 overall, 0-2 in conference play) tied the game on two first-quarter field goals by Sam Cadenas, the first a 25-yarder and the second from 44 yards out.

The combination of Zamora to Smith clicked again in the second quarter when the two hooked up for a 20-yard touchdown to put Chiawana (2-1, 2-1) up 13-6 where it stood at the half.

In the third quarter, Smith intercepted a Hermsiton pass to set up the Riverhawks’ next score. This time, Isaac Hoag caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Zamora.

Zamora hit Smith midway through the third quarter on a 17-yard touchdown to put Chiwana up 27-6.

Early in their next possession, Hermiston scored when quarterback Chase Elliott hit Caden Hottman for a 75-yard touchdown pass to make it 27-12.

Zamora and Smith then teamed up for their fourth touchdown of the game, this time on a 6-yard pass. The Riverhawks’ final score came on an 80-yard run by Ian Mohl.

Elliott finished the night with 13 completions on 29 attempts and 135 yards. He led Hermiston with 78 yards on 20 carries.

Hottman finished the night with four receptions for 98 yards and a score.

Hermiston will host Richland on Friday at Kennison Field.
