A child died Friday morning in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 84.
The Oregon State Police responded around 6:30 a.m. to a report of a crash on I-84 near milepost 217.
According to the OSP, an International semi-truck and trailer, operated by Durid Jathey, 57, of Spokane, Wash., was eastbound in the slow lane when it traveled onto the shoulder and collided with a stopped Honda Accord.
The Honda was occupied by Domingo Suarez Aguirre, 38, of Burien, Wash., Fortina Vicente Arroyo, 38, of Seattle, and two juveniles. Suarez Aquirre was transported by air ambulance to a hospital, while Vicente Arroyo and a juvenile passenger were transported to St. Anthony’s hospital in Pendleton.
The other juvenile passenger sustained fatal injuries. Jathey sustained minor injuries and was not transported.
Eastbound traffic was closed at exit 216 for approximately four hours.
OSP was assisted by the Umatilla Tribal Police Department, Umatilla Fire Department, and Oregon Department of Transportation.
