An equipment failure at a manufacturing facility on the West Coast has resulted in a shortage in chlorine for cities throughout the West Coast.
The shortage is impacting cities throughout the area, including Hermiston, which has reduced all outdoor watering in city parks by 10 percent starting this past weekend.
Oregon Emergency Management officials said that currently tap water remains “clean and safe to drink.”
Residents are asked to limit their water use until the problem has been solved. OEM says the public can continue to use water for drinking, cooking and bathing, but should limit outdoor use to extend the chlorine supply in the state. Officials emphasize there is no need to start amassing additional volumes of water.
The Hermiston Family Aquatic Center remains open to the public. For more information, visit the OEM website.
