Charles C. “Chuck” Burton of Hermiston died on Feb. 27, 2019 in Hermiston at the age of 80.
He was was born on Oct. 23, 1938 in Collbran, Colo., to Theodore Thomas Burton and Pauline Virginia Jones Burton. Chuck came to Hermiston in 1954 when he was a sophomore and graduated from Hermiston High School in the class of 1956. He then worked for Boeing until 1959 and later went to work for Union Pacific Railroad as a carman. He then became a crane operator and worked his way up to foreman over the crane crew until he retired after 43 years of service.
Chuck married Suzie Jones on Feb. 15, 1958. She preceded him in death in 1998. He married Peggy Fetter on April 3, 1999.
Chuck was involved in Little League baseball for many years. He was an active member of the Elks and Eagles and a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. Chuck was an avid golfer and fan of the Denver Broncos. He enjoyed gardening and pulling weeds and was known for many years by his handle bar mustache. He shared his birthday, Oct. 23 with his sisters, Alberta and Darley, and they were all two years apart. Chuck was very outgoing and never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; children, Lori (Rod) Fetter, Hermiston, and Randy (Laurina) Burton, Hermiston; stepchildren, Junie (Randy), Waldport, Jackie (Joe), Pendleton, and Mark Fetter, Milton Freewater; sisters, Darley Hoffman, Montrose, Colo., and Virginia Patrick, Oregon City; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Chuck was preceded in death by his first wife, Suzie; his parents; and a sister, Alberta Liimatta.
