Lucinda Ann “Cindy” Sexton died on Aug. 1, 2024 at the age of 85.
She was born to A.W. (Wilber) and Jeanne Kelly on Oct. 12, 1938 in a house in North Bend, Wash. (a small town between Seattle and Snoqualmie Pass).
Except for a couple years right out of high school when her dad was transferred to Chicago, most of her life was spent in the Puyallup area. Cindy graduated from Sumner High, class of 1955. She was in a very tumultuous seven-year marriage, during which time she had five healthy boys. Four years later she met and married Stan Sexton, who not only agreed to have another baby (daughter Kelli) but treated all the kids as if they were his own. They were married 42 years.
Cindy spent most of her adult life in sales, which she said was mostly the reason she was no longer shy.
During Stan and Cindy’s marriage, they were both active members of Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church, where she served as both elder and deacon. After Stan’s passing from cancer in 2011, Cindy moved (kicking and screaming) to Erie, Colo. to be “grandnanny” to Kelli’s four beautiful children. It was after this move that Cindy became an active member of a very loving church, Valmont Community Presbyterian. Besides being active at VCPC, she delivered flowers to nursing home residents, delivered meals for Meals on Wheels and was an active volunteer for Operation Christmas Child. Cindy also loved road trips, travel, old barns and the Stobie Ranch in Thompson Falls, Mont.
Cindy is survived by six adult children: Vic Johnson, Timm (Teri) Johnson, Mark Sexton, Bruce (Janet) Sexton, Blair (Jackie) Sexton, and Kelli (Mark Rockwell) Sexton; as well as a brother, Joe Kelly; a sister, Margaret Kelly; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley L. Sexton and sister, Audrey Peer.
Cindy’s burial service will be held on Aug. 23, 2024 at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash. at 10:15 a.m. with a reception to follow at Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church in Puyallup, and a celebration of life on Sept. 21, 2024 at Valmont Community Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow.
