The Hermiston City Council approved an amendment to its contract with the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce that will impact chamber staffing.
Back in March, the city received a resignation letter of the Chamber employee who acted as the facility manager for the Hermiston Conference Center. The amendment, approved at Monday’s city council meeting, clears the way for a Parks and Recreation employee to manage the conference center.
The amendment follows a council vote back in April for the city to take over management of the Hermiston Conference Center in 2018.
Other aspects of Monday’s amendment include the chamber offering training to the new facility manager through the rest of the year. The chamber will continue to provide all other support operations as it had previously through 2017.
The final day of work of the previous center manager was March 28. Between March 29, and Dec. 31, the city will pay the chamber approximately $49,500 in exchange for continued support services and training. The additional cost to the city for the remainder of 2017 will be approximately $39,000 on top of the payments to the chamber. The city staffer who will manage the conference center was previously a part-time employee who has now been raised to full-time status. However, she will continue to perform other duties for the city concurrently with managing the conference center.
