The Boardman City Council voted to approve the first reading of an ordinance to form a
new urban renewal district on the north side of Boardman.

At its Aug. 1 meeting, the council held a public hearing, where the was only comment came from the Boardman Park and Recreation District clarifying the amount of tax revenue that would go to the new urban renewal district rather than the park district over the next 20 years.

The proposed urban renewal district encompasses many properties on the northeast
portion of Boardman. With the tax revenue the district would create, much of the funds would be spent on transportation needs such as improvements on N.E. Front Street, and an extension on N.E. Boardman Avenue to Olson Road. The plan also included new roadways connecting N.E. Columbia Avenue to N.E. Boardman Avenue and connecting N.E. 2nd Street to N.E. Columbia Avenue.

The next step will be for the city to give a presentation about the proposed urban
renewal plan to the county on Aug. 16. The council hold the second reading and
consider passage of the ordinance at their Sept. 5 meeting.
