The second of two free holiday season meals will be served during the Community Fellowship Dinner in Hermiston.
A nonprofit and all-volunteer endeavor, it has set the table for the free meal ministry for more than three decades. Its mission is to offer everyone the opportunity to enjoy a traditional holiday meal in the company of others.
The Christmas dinner is Monday, Dec. 25 at Hermiston High School, 600 S. First St. The full-service in-person meal is available from noon to 3 p.m. Also, takeout meals (limited menu) can be picked up between 2-4 p.m.
In addition to dining-in and takeout service, local deliveries can be scheduled. To request meal delivery, call 541-571-1337 before 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23.
On Thanksgiving, about 1,100 meals were provided, including 400 takeout orders and 250 deliveries. Board Chairman Gary Humphreys said the effort included more than 100 volunteers of all ages. Numerous table hosts, he said, served guests to help encourage and facilitate the “fellowship” aspect of the dinner.
“It’s about more than just eating,” Vice Chairperson Heather Smart said. “I just think the way we get together and are able to get fellowship is just a blessing.”
