The board of directors and volunteers with the Community Fellowship Dinner are as busy as Santa’s elves as they prepare for the second of two holiday season meals. Community members of all ages are invited to volunteer.
The free Christmas dinner is Wednesday, Dec. 25, in the commons at Hermiston High School, 600 S. First St. The full-service in-person event runs from noon to 3 p.m. Also, takeout meals featuring a limited menu can be picked up between 2-4 p.m. To request delivery service, call 541-571-1337 before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24.
The twice-yearly holiday meal ministry began as a small informal gathering in the early 1980s when several couples invited others to join them for Thanksgiving dinner in their home. As the mission grew to provide people a place to enjoy a holiday meal in the company of others, it has outgrown several venues. More than 1,400 meals were served on Thanksgiving, including a record 360 deliveries.
