Construction update for Highway 395 improvement project in Hermiston

Day and nighttime construction activities continue in Hermiston along Highway 395 for the Oregon Department of Transportation’s $3.7 million highway improvement project. Most of the work is being performed at nighttime to minimize impacts to traffic and local businesses along the route.

The project is on schedule for completion prior to July 4, with major paving work wrapped by early June.

ODOT says the project is in the home stretch for major grinding/paving work. Grinding and paving will continue over the next couple weeks. The permanent concrete median curbs will also be installed soon at the Elm Avenue intersection to restrict turning movements (where the candle stick cones were installed).

Traffic impacts for the week of May 16 are as follows:

Daytime Shift
Minimal impacts are expected during daytime.

Nightshift Monday – Friday 7 p.m.–7 a.m. May 16 – 20
Monday – Theater Lane to Fourth Street – contractor will grind and pave the median section.

Tuesday-Thursday – Crews will grind and pave the fast lanes from Theater Lane to Fourth Street.

Friday – Grind side street approaches and complete five-inch grind from Highland Avenue to Fourth Street. The work on side street pproaches is in preparation of mainline slow-lane grind and pave operation.

Traffic control: Expect flaggers at signalized intersections and possible side street closures during this time period. Traffic should expect delays and will not be able to cross the asphalt lane until it has cooled down and achieved compaction. This may require extra travel to get to destinations in the work zone. To avoid delays, please use alternative routes around construction area.

Access to businesses: Access signs and blue cones will be placed to show businesses are open during evening hours. Signs will not be placed out during late evening from11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
