Council Allows Service on Multiple Committees

Prior to Monday night, if a community-minded individual wanted to serve on multiple city boards or committees, he or she was out of luck.

That changed Monday when the Hermiston City Council passed a resolution that allows the mayor and council to appoint the same person to serve on two boards or committees simultaneously.

The resolution was first suggested by Councilor George Anderson who believed the city was tying its own hands by limiting people to serving on just one committee. Anderson said the people interested in serving the city should be allowed to serve on multiple committees, particularly when, as he put it, “It’s not like we have people breaking down the door to serve on committees.”

The resolution was passed unanimously.

“I think this is an exciting move on the council’s part,” said Hermiston Mayor Dave Drotzmann. “There are several people out there who would like to serve on multiple committees.”
